[Invisible Sweat]

Invisible Sweat

I’ve been feeling a bit nervous about the spread of corona in my area, even though it’s a rural area. It’s a situation where anyone can get infected at any time. I’ve been feeling scared, so I’ve been going to work, but I’ve stopped going to the swimming school for a while. No matter how good the air-conditioning system is in the indoor pool, everyone does not wear masks during swimming lessons where they breathe heavily, and they are unprotected when changing in the locker room. I’m sure I’ll be fine, but you can never be sure, and I don’t want to get sick more than anything, so I decided to take a break for a while. As much as I wanted to go swimming, I had no choice.
Then, a few days ago, the school itself was shut down due to the fact that some of its employees were infected. I was now in a situation where I could no longer decide what to do on my own.

I’m going to take this as an opportunity to withdraw from my current swimming school. I don’t plan to enter the pool for a while yet, and the membership fee is a waste of money for now. However, I don’t want to fall into the trap of not exercising enough, so I’m going to shift my focus back to running and start training on land for a while. It’s still cold outside, but I guess I’ll just have to live with it. Then, after the corona is under control, I can join a gym that has a pool attached to it. It’s hard to say goodbye to the instructors and friends at my current school, but I’ve been thinking about moving to a comprehensive gym that can handle both land and water activities, so this might be a good opportunity. Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll meet new people once I move on.

Speaking of which, spring will soon be here, a season of partings and encounters. There will be a lot of changes in schools and workplaces. Graduation, retirement, job transfer, etc. Farewells are sad, and new encounters are always a bit nerve-wracking, no matter how old you are. It may be seen as a season when our hearts are unexpectedly and subtly shaken.
After a breakup, you may be surprised to realize how much that person meant to you and the feelings you had for them. I feel grateful that I relied on that person so much, and I feel enthusiastic that we should all follow up on the hole that has opened up. I think it is normal to forget people little by little day by day, but I am aware that I have been able to improve myself through my relationships with each person, and that I have been able to stand on such an accumulation of people in my life. I have not come this far by my own strength. Spring is the season to be reminded of this.

When I stand on the side of leaving, I still wonder what people think of me. At the swimming school this time, there was definitely a sense of camaraderie, but not to the point of tears of sadness at parting. But I am curious. I didn’t know your names well, and I didn’t know your contact information at all. However, we were teammates who sweated and worked hard together for a certain period of time, and in that sense, we had a sense of closeness. I was supported.
I don’t think I’ll ever see any of you again, because I feel like it would be a bit of an exaggeration to go out of my way to say goodbye with a box of sweets. I hope you are doing well and continue swimming. Maybe in the future, we’ll compete in a swimming competition between swimming schools.

 I’m still a little sad.
