ロシアがウクライナに侵攻した。もしアメリカがウクライナを助ける目的でロシアと戦争を始めることにでもなろうものなら、全世界が核戦争に巻き込まれる可能性が出てくる。もう温暖化がどうだこうだと言っている場合ではない。地球が、人類が消滅する危機が迫っている。そんな風に考えていたら、「死ぬかもしれない」と単純に恐怖感に襲われた。世界の権力者たちの映像を見ていると、「この人たちなら本当に核戦争を始めてしまうかもしれない」と想像でき、とてつもなく怖くなった。

　ミサイルで爆撃すれば誰かが死ぬことは間違いがない。それも一人や二人ではないはずだ。それが兵士であろうが民間人であろうが、同じ人間である。それを分かっていて敢えて発射できてしまう思考が、私には全く理解できない。私がそう思うのは私が西側の国の一員で、生まれた時から資本主義と呼ばれる社会の中で育ってきたからだろうか。東側の人間であれば理解できる行動なのだろうか。

　多様性に寛容であることが重んじられるようになってきた今、「自分とは反対の意見を持つ人たちとも交わりを持ち、理解を深め合うことが大切だ」という考え方をさらに拡げて実行してゆくチャンスだと思う。インターネットには、みんなが上手に使えば、可能性を高めてくれる力がある。そのためにはお互いを理解しようとする努力が相当に必要なのだろう。乗り越えなければならない壁は高くて厚い。けれどもそれはとてもやりがいの持てる仕事でもあるように感じる。「必ず分かり合える日が来る」と信じて生きることは、この上ないくらい尊いことだと思う。
　だがしかし、「人を殺してはダメ」とか、「法律を順守する」、「他者を尊重する」等といった、それこそ「自分がしてほしくないことは他人にするな」という最低限の人間としての基本を双方が担保しなければ、理解どころか何も生み出せはしない。あくまでもその前提に立った上での多様性だ。それともこんな風に思うのも、私が西側の一員だから、資本主義に毒されているからなのだろうか。

　私が今回の問題を解決するために期待しているのは、ロシア国民だ。ロシア軍を止められるのは他ならぬロシア国民しかいない。今回のウクライナ侵攻が暴挙であることはすでに多くのロシア国民が気づいているらしく、盛り上がる反対運動を鎮圧しようとする警察の取り締まり方が過激さを増している。何とかそこは頑張ってもらいたい。ロシアが変わるには底辺からの改革がどうやら必要なようだ。
　反対に考えれば、この世界が注視している中でロシア国民が何もしないのであれば、「世界の嫌われ者」になってしまう可能性は大きい。西側諸国がロシアを包囲する経済的な締め付けも、一般の市民生活が脅かされるほどに極めて厳しいものになるだろう。このままではロシアが孤立してしまう。そんな風に追い詰められたら、本当に核のボタンに指導者の指先がかかってしまうかもしれない。他人事ではない。

Ukraine

　Russia has invaded Ukraine. If the U.S. were to start a war with Russia to help Ukraine, the whole world could be involved in a nuclear war. This is no longer the time to be talking about global warming. The earth and humanity are in danger of disappearing. Thinking like that, I was struck with a simple sense of fear that I might die. Watching the images of the world’s powerful people, I could imagine that these people might actually start a nuclear war, and I became incredibly scared.

　There is no doubt that bombing with missiles will kill someone. It would not be just one or two people. Whether they are soldiers or civilians, they are all human beings. I don’t understand how they can know this and dare to fire. Is it because I am a member of a western country and have been raised in a capitalist society since birth, or is it because I am from the east and can understand this behavior?

　Now that tolerance for diversity is becoming more and more important, I think we have a chance to further expand and implement the idea that it is important to associate with people who have opposing views and deepen our understanding of each other. The Internet has the power to increase our possibilities if we all use it well. For this to happen, we will need to make a lot of effort to understand each other. The barriers we have to overcome are high and thick, but I feel that it is also a very rewarding job. I think it is the most precious thing in the world to live with the belief that the day will come when we can understand each other.
　However, if both sides do not guarantee the minimum human basics such as “don’t kill people,” “obey the law,” “respect others,” “don’t do to others what you wouldn’t want them to do to you,” etc., they will not be able to create anything, let alone understand each other. This is the premise upon which diversity is based. Or is it because I am a member of the West and have been poisoned by capitalism that I feel this way?

　It is the Russian people that I am looking to for a solution to this problem. The only people who can stop the Russian military are the Russian people. It seems that many Russians have already realized that this invasion of Ukraine is an outrage, and the police crackdown on the growing opposition movement is becoming more and more extreme. I hope they can do something about that. It seems that reform from the bottom up is necessary for Russia to change.
　On the contrary, if the Russian people do nothing while the world is watching, there is a great possibility that they will become the “hated people of the world. The economic stranglehold that the Western countries will place on Russia will also be extremely severe, to the extent that the lives of ordinary citizens will be threatened. If this continues, Russia will be isolated. If it is cornered like that, the nuclear button might really be at the fingertips of its leaders. I am not a stranger to this.

　I pray for the souls of those who lost their lives.
