久しぶりに大好きなサッカーの話。今シーズンに入ってからはメッシがバルセロナを去ったせいもあって、1試合を2時間かけてゆっくり観るようなことはほとんどなくなった。観ていると何となく、飽きてしまう。でもやっぱり好きなので、ハイライトはなるべく観るようにしている。「ハイライト」とは1試合につき、試合の中で起きたゴールシーン等の展開が変わった主要な場面を取り出して編集し、だいたい7～8分くらいに短縮したダイジェスト映像のこと。これなら観ていて飽きている暇などない。DAZNに入っている関係で、プレミアのビッグ6絡みとラ・リーガのレアルとバルセロナの試合をチェックしている。
あれだけ好きだったスペインのプロサッカーリーグ「ラ・リーガ」が、その熱狂から少し離れて眺めてみると、だいぶイングランドのリーグ「プレミア」に圧されているように見える。試合の内容もそうだし、特にコロナが空けて球場に駆け付けた観客たちの熱狂ぶりがもの凄い。ホームチームがゴールを決めた瞬間の、あの一体感は本当に素晴らしいと思う。ただただ羨ましい。一般市民が地元のチームをあれだけ興奮して応援できる状況は、そうなるまでに何年もかかるだろうし、だとするとお金では買えない文化のようなものだと思う。
テレビ中継している側も会場の雰囲気を映し出すことを重要視しているようで、観客の様子が映り込むような画角でゴールシーンを撮っているカメラが必ず設置されている。観ていると臨場感がおびただしく伝わってくる。画面を通しての盛り上げ方が非常に上手い。「放映料が高いだけのことはあるな」と、変に納得してしまう。
イングランドの観客の人たちは、恐らくとてもよくサッカー（当地の人々はこだわって「フットボール」と呼ぶ）を観ている人たちで、点が入る瞬間について言えば、ゴールが決まりそうな雰囲気とか、そのゴールがどれだけの意味を持つのかとか、技術的にどれだけクオリティーの高いシュートだったかとか、分かっているのだと思う。本当にサッカーが好きなんだと感じる。だからこそあの演技性が全く見られない、歓喜の表情やガッツポーズなどの仕草を、示し合わせたわけではないのに、何万という人数が同時にできるのではないか。
反対に気が抜けたプレーには容赦なくブーイングを浴びせかけられるので、サッカーに対してシビアな人たちであることは間違いなく、選手たちが背負うプレッシャーは大変なものだろう。
そのプレミアリーグが今シーズンの大詰めを迎えている。リーグ戦あと4試合を残してトップ2チームが勝ち点「1」差でしのぎを削っている状態。両チームともあと4試合4連勝を目指して挑むのみだ。恐らくどちらか1試合でも引き分けた方が脱落する。今シーズンの直接対決は終わっていて、それぞれが自分の道を進むだけという、目が離せない展開になっている。
この両チーム、1位の「マンチェスター・シティ」と2位の「リヴァプール」はヨーロッパ最強を決めるチャンピオンズリーグの戦いにもまだ勝ち残っており、スケジュール的には共にかなり厳しい戦いを強いられる。もしかしたらチャンピオンズリーグの決勝で相まみえることも充分にあり得る。繰り返しになるが、あと1か月、イングランドから目が離せない。

Premier League
It’s been a while since I’ve talked about my favorite soccer game. Since the beginning of this season, due in part to Messi’s departure from Barcelona, I rarely spend two hours watching one game. I somehow get bored of watching it. But I still like it, so I try to watch the highlights as much as possible. Highlights” are digests of a single match that are shortened to about seven or eight minutes by editing out the main scenes that took place during the match, such as goal-scoring scenes, etc. This way, I can watch the match and not get bored. Since I am a DAZN subscriber, I check out the matches between the Big Six in the Premier League and Real and Barcelona in La Liga.
La Liga, the Spanish professional soccer league that I used to love so much, seems to have been overpowered by the English league, the Premier, when I look at it from a distance from the frenzy. The games are just as good, and the crowd that rushes to the stadium, especially when Corona is empty, is very enthusiastic. That sense of unity at the moment the home team scores a goal is truly amazing. I just envy them. It will take years for the general public to be able to cheer for their local team with such excitement, and if that is the case, it is a kind of culture that money cannot buy.
The TV broadcasters also seem to place great importance on capturing the atmosphere of the venue, and there are always cameras set up to capture the goal scene from an angle that reflects the spectators. The sense of realism comes through when you are watching. The way they make the audience feel the excitement throughout the screen is very good. I was strangely convinced that the high cost of the broadcast fee was worth it.
The English audience is probably very familiar with soccer (or “football” as they call it), and they know the moment a goal is about to be scored, how much it means, and how technically high the quality of the shot is, and so on. I feel like he really likes soccer. That is why tens of thousands of people can make such gestures as joyful expressions and gut poses at the same time, without any acting skills, even though they are not acting in concert with each other.
On the other hand, if a player is not careful, they will be booed mercilessly, so there is no doubt that these are serious people about soccer, and the pressure that the players must be under must be very great.
The Premier League is now in its final stretch of the season. The top two teams are separated by only one point with four games left in the league. Both teams are looking to win four games in a row. Perhaps a draw in one of the games will eliminate them. The direct matchups of the season are over, and each side just has to go their own way, a development that is hard to take one’s eyes off of.
Both of these teams, first-place “Manchester City” and second-place “Liverpool,” are still in the battle for the Champions League to determine the best in Europe, and both have a very tough schedule. It is quite possible that they will meet in the final of the Champions League. Again, we cannot take our eyes off England for another month.
Really, I’m jealous!
