[Effort and Hard Work]

Effort and Hard Work

The thought, “I’m working so hard, why isn’t anyone helping me?” lacks relativity and is a false feeling. There is nothing wrong with the way we feel, and it is impossible to control the way we feel, but I would like to train myself not to feel that way by using reason. Hard work does not always pay off.

I am an uneven person, and there are days when I feel like I did a great job, and other days when I feel like I did not do well at all, that I scored zero. I have an uneven mental state, and it really depends on the day, not on the outcome of what I did, but on whether or not I spent the day in a way that I was satisfied with. As I live my life feeling such great disappointment and some satisfaction repeatedly, I can’t very, very well come up with lines like “I’m working so hard ……”. I don’t feel that I am always able to do my best. There are times when I wish I had worked …… harder, but I have never had the feeling that I could have worked to the limit. Therefore, I think that a “groan” in the true sense of the word has never come out of my body.

However, I think that the idea that “if you work hard, you can reach a groan” is probably not true either. In other words, I do not believe that “if you work hard to the limit, you will earn the right to cry out, ‘Why won’t anyone help me?
Who will be the judge relative to whether I did my best or didn’t do my best in the first place? Never me. I still cannot see myself in relative terms. Even if God were to judge me, there is no point in me worrying about it. It is already wrong to measure God’s work in such humanly conceivable categories as “relatively” or whatever. God is always watching over us, regardless of whether we have tried our best or not.

He wants us to be people who can work hard. We want to live our lives trying our best. But in reality, I am not able to do so. I am disappointed in myself, but somehow I manage to make up excuses and live my life. Yes, I am a person who cannot work hard. But the Christian God I believe in says, “That’s fine. He loves me even though I am such a failure. I am always crushed by my weak heart and unable to do anything, but He tells me, “It’s okay to be just the way I am.
Feeling those words of salvation, I think, instead of lamenting that I can’t do this or that myself, I should be more thankful for today. Shouldn’t I feel more happy that life is given to me now, and that I can be disappointed, worried, thinking, and thankful in this way? It’s fine to work hard and try your best to achieve your own goals. You can do as much as you want. However, rather than being happy or sad about “I did it or didn’t do it,” if I want to be truly happy, I should be more aware of what lies beneath my feet.

Happiness is not something that can always be attained by hard work.
