[Secret Resolutions]

Secret Resolutions

Everyone has a “secret.” There are my own secrets that I can’t tell anyone, and there are also the kinds of secrets that only the people involved know and can’t bring to light. How much of a secret a person can hold and still lead a normal life will vary from person to person. Perhaps I am the type of person who has very little space to keep secrets to myself. Too many of them would break me. I guess I don’t have the personality to be a spy even if I wanted to be one.
I know it would be painful for me, so even though I try to avoid making secrets as much as possible, before I know it, they are somehow made. As we grow older, secrets may be created in many cases that have little to do with our own will.

It would be nice to be able to feel better by telling someone about it, but it is a “secret” because we cannot tell, and that is difficult to do under the circumstances. If there is a problem related to the secret, the best way to solve it would be to talk to the person concerned, but again, it is a “secret” because it is not possible to do so. For example, a husband who has committed adultery is reluctant to talk to his wife about it.
Aside from an affair, I’ve been trying to figure out why people can’t tell me their secrets. In many cases, I think it is because they do not want to “ruin their own reputation. They don’t want to be disillusioned, saying, “I didn’t think you were capable of that kind of thing,” or feel sorry for the person, saying, “Poor thing! There are times when people want to avoid causing trouble for others, but I wonder if the real reason is mainly a feeling of self-preservation. Some may fear that being found out will cause them to lose trust and upset the balance of the relationship.

Some may wish they didn’t have to keep secrets, but we humans are such stupid creatures that we end up creating problems for ourselves and causing trouble for others. This leads to the creation of “secrets,” and in the end, you suffer. At least that’s how it is in my experience. But if that is human nature, then people will continue to create secrets forever. I think that may be the truth. Is there such a thing as a person without secrets?
If that theory is correct, I think we need to improve the way we deal with secrets. I have already written about how holding on to too many secrets can destroy you. In my case, when I hold it in, my palpitations become so intense that I almost have a stroke. Probably at such times my blood pressure is considerably elevated. It is a very dangerous situation that I would prefer to avoid if possible.

If there is someone who is in a position where there is no conflict of interest and will listen to me seriously, I think it is better to talk about it. There are things in the world that you cannot handle on your own. It is fine to be confident in yourself, but you should also consider relying on others’ help without being overconfident. In this sense, “taking it easy” is not a bad thing.
However, it seems counterproductive to talk to someone who is likely to take other people’s secrets lightly. Secrets are very important and fragile things to the person in question. If they are taken in stride, it is inevitable that they will be hurt. It is a bit too harsh to consider this as part of the ordeal.
I think that accepting the secrets of others is tantamount to increasing one’s own secrets. In other words, it is an increase in one’s own burdens. If you are not prepared for that, you should not even try to listen to secrets.

Thankfulness of having someone to talk to
