[Aging, Change, and Fun.]

Aging, Change, and Fun.

I began to think, “I don’t want to have fun anymore,” or rather, “Things that used to seem fun are no longer fun,” or I began to look back at my former self with a white eye and wonder why I used to think such things were fun. I guess it is proof that I am getting older. I imagine that we all get older in that way, and each of us changes much more. I think it is mainly due to a decline in physical fitness, but I have a feeling that it is not the only reason.

I used to live a life where I would spend the day’s earnings before the day was over. I loved to go out drinking and would invite someone to join me for a drink every day. Not only did I drink alcohol, but I also sang karaoke and had a great time, and at the time I couldn’t stop doing that because I enjoyed it so much. Maybe I wanted to distract myself from the loneliness of being alone, and I think the fact that I was surrounded by good friends was one of the reasons that made me do that.
But those days were over, and I wanted to find something “real,” something I could truly enjoy. I went down a path that everyone may go down at least once when they are young, and I stepped firmly on it. Thinking about it now, I wonder why I enjoyed those things so much. But perhaps life is a repetition of such things.

Even now, if I’m invited to a drinking party, I don’t miss it, but my chances of showing up are drastically reduced. I no longer find them very enjoyable. Even if I do go to a party now and then, I have a bad habit of saying things I don’t want to say when I’m drunk, and I’m really getting tired of it. In the past, I didn’t mind a little bit of gibberish at all. I wish I didn’t have to say it, but when I get drunk, I get into a good mood. Even if I am in a good mood at the time, I cannot stand the intense self-loathing that comes over me the next morning. I feel so depressed that I wonder why I said what I did. I didn’t really say anything serious, but maybe my guts are getting smaller by the minute.

I think the most obvious phenomenon is that I no longer enjoy drinking, but I have also stopped cheering for the local soccer team, which I used to consider my life’s work, because I got tired of it. I don’t feel any joy anymore in the sales activities of my company, which I have staked my life on. I feel that what I really want to do and what I have to do is something else.
I think I have reached the state of mind I am in now because I have done so many things, and therefore I feel that nothing has been wasted until now. And in reality, I have to earn even a minimal amount of money to survive, and I cannot suddenly quit my job here just because I am not enjoying it. As long as I carry that on my back and feel that there is still work to be done in my life, I want to keep exploring that. And I don’t think that if I don’t quit, I won’t be able to find the real thing.
Living a life of lamenting that it is not fun or that it is boring is just that, boring. It would be more enjoyable to live in anticipation of what fun things will happen next. I think the reason I have come to believe this is because of the many experiences I have had in my life.

I am becoming more and more stubborn day by day.
