[When you can love yourself.]

When you can love yourself.

I have no confidence in myself. I have nothing like an achievement that I can boast to others. But when someone relies on me, for whatever reason, I want to be a person who can respond with sincerity. I don’t necessarily think that I need to be someone who is dependable. I don’t know if it is by chance or fate, but I hope to be someone who can be there for them when they come to know me for some reason.

I believe, as the psychologist Maslow says, that “human beings are beings who have the power to solve their own problems. I don’t believe that humans have “power” in concrete terms, but I believe that God’s love is poured into each one of us, so I believe that I can indirectly say that. As for myself, I am by no means “powerful,” but I can manage to stand here because I feel that God loves me.
I do not intend to preach about “God” or Christianity to those who rely on me. I don’t want to impose my ideas or experiences on them, as I believe that would be counterproductive. I will just listen to what you have to say, while staying close to your heart. Basically, anything more than that would be annoying. But if something comes to my mind that could help in the process of talking, I will pass it on. I will weave an essential conversation based on facts, without pandering to the other person’s opinion or sticking to my own ideas. If, as a result, my words help the other person to realize something important, there will be no greater joy for me.

I quite like myself when I am being kind to others in this way. I am “leaning in” as if I am “doing something” for them, but in reality, I am searching for something like the truth together with those who are suffering in this way. In other words, I am learning. I feel as if I am being allowed to deepen the learning that I need right now, and it feels really good. There are times when I want to study, but I can’t always narrow down what exactly I need to learn, and I feel like I’m going in circles. Compared to this, when I am able to really get close to someone, I feel a sense of exhilaration, as if a thick fog inside my mind has been lifted.
It may sound very rude to the other person, but I think I could even go so far as to say, “I am using other people’s problems to help me grow. But growth is only a byproduct, and I am not doing this for the purpose of taking advantage of others, so please forgive me. I feel as if I have one of the tricks to living comfortably.

However, although I say “leaning in,” etc. simply, it turns out that it is in fact not a half-hearted effort. Maybe you will be lucky enough to be there for someone in distress at least once, but I think it will be tough work to keep it up. It’s an ordeal so tough that you may fall apart.
But now that I’m in the mood to learn some kind of new trick, I’m going to put some energy into it and give it my all. I’m sure I’ll make a lot of mistakes, and the more experience I gain, the tougher it will get. I feel an unfathomable fear, but on the other hand, I also want to test how far I can go.

I really don’t mean to take advantage of you.
