[Once you get used to it, it’s over.]

Once you get used to it, it’s over.

Mentally, you may be nervous at first, but after doing it many times, you will “get used to it”. Familiarity eases the tension and brings a sense of relaxation. Sometimes it even makes us feel a sense of fulfillment, satisfaction, etc. It is often said that “getting used to something new” is the hardest part of starting something new.
On the other hand, there is also such a thing as “getting too used to it. It is a difficult thing to get used to. If you get used to it and lose your sense of urgency, it can become somewhat boring. You lose stimulation and motivation. That is nothing but the beginning of the so-called “boredom” state.

Some people who are patient may be able to persevere and keep going even when they get bored, but in my case, it is a little difficult. I often get frustrated with myself for being bored and lose patience. If I have to endure it for financial or other reasons, I can bear it, but I am always looking for a way to get out of it. Boredom is a powerful force that can quickly freeze a passion that was burning with excitement. For me, it is a powerful enemy that I have been fighting for a long time.
Perhaps it is because I have such a personality that I often end up overdoing something for three days after starting it. There have certainly been times when I started something because it looked interesting, only to find it unappealing because I couldn’t find much to be thrilled about, or because it was too easy. It is a bad trait of mine to be smug as if I know it all, saying, “Nah, that’s not so bad,” when I have only tried a few things. I suppose this also helps my three-day-abandonment tendency.

Thus, in most cases, “getting used to it” means “the end” for me. When my heart loses its thrill, I can no longer take it seriously. However, there is one thing that I am currently challenging myself to do that I can’t seem to get used to. This is volunteer work. The fact that I can’t get used to it means that I am still “tense” and have no room in my heart, in other words, I am progressing with a heavy mental burden. This is very hard. To be honest, I am struggling under a lot of pressure. I don’t know how long I can go on like this.
I can almost hear you saying, “If you get used to it, it will be the end, and if you don’t, it will be too hard, so what do we do about it? Truth is that I am enjoying this rare phenomenon of “unfamiliarity” very much right now. I am asking myself in the car on the way to the volunteer site, with the dreadful feeling that I really want to run away, “Why am I rushing to keep up when I know something painful is waiting for me? I shudder, unsure if I will ever be able to go back to the rigors of the job.

With the amount of debt I am in and the amount of money I have to pay back every month, it may not be the right thing to do to devote my energy and time to volunteer activities that do not bring in a penny. I should be seriously trying to get a second job and scrambling for money, but strangely enough, I find myself feeling calm and relaxed. I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this, because it’s really mentally tough and there is the money problem, but for now I want to immerse myself in this “unfamiliar” work.

A fresh feeling will give me strength.
