[Excuses and Justifications]

Excuses and Justifications

I consider myself a timid person by and large, but there are times when I am compelled by necessity to take the plunge and do something. I am not always able to take action because I lack courage, am too shy, or feel it is too much trouble, but there are times when I have to do something. In such times of distress, I try to fulfill my minimum obligations as a human being and as an adult.
I treat others with a certain amount of kindness. I’ll let you decide if that’s a good or bad thing another time, I rarely complain to anyone face to face, but when I do have to act, I do so with a certain degree of gentleness. However, when I encounter people who are not willing to move when action is needed, I feel indignant when I see them piling up complaints and excuses. I can understand if they are shutting themselves away because they are unable to act, but I have no patience for those who blame others or society for their inaction. I think that is just naivete.

There is a concept that “others are a mirror of yourself,” and I agree with that in many aspects. For example, if you say, “I feel angry when I look at this person,” I think that in some cases you are being shown a part of yourself that you dislike through that person, without realizing it. If I can analyze that phenomenon with humility, without getting angry, I have been connected to such answers and hints. It is difficult to reach such a situation instantaneously, but if I feel dislike or resentment when I interact with someone, I try to look for common ground with that person in myself in an after-the-fact way. After all, it seems that only between people can one improve oneself.

Therefore, I cannot tolerate people who try to justify their inability by blaming others, and I think I may be feeling the same elements in me as those people. Or maybe they have touched a part of my heart that I don’t want to be touched because it makes me so strangely angry.
I don’t know. Blaming others is not a praiseworthy act, and even if I am simply angry with them for it, that could be taken as normal. Am I overthinking things a bit again?

Now, as I write, I dig into my mind. I felt nauseous and disgusted. There are often situations and mental states where it is hard to face yourself. It is never always an easy task that can be done quickly. In terms of this subject today, it was specifically a task to look for the “me who justifies my inability to act by blaming others” in my mind. Searching in my mind for the self I dislike is hard. Maybe it is a task that does not need to be done.
The more I try to find myself, the more my weakness is exposed. I wonder if “self-discovery” means a journey of continual self-harm. How long will I be able to endure it, and will there be an end to this journey? I don’t know anything, but even though I get mad and hurt, I have the feeling that none of my experiences will be in vain. I want to be the one who doesn’t run away.

I don’t want to make excuses.
