[Nostalgic Cardboard box]

Nostalgic Cardboard box

In the book “Napoleon,” which I just finished reading the other day, there was a description that the name of the ship of the British fleet on which Napoleon Bonaparte boarded when he finally tried to defect to England was called the “Bellerophon. The name “Bellerophon” is derived from Greek mythology, and is said to be the name of a Greek hero who defeated a monster called “Chimera”.
I recall that in the movie “Mission Impossible 2” starring Tom Cruise, the two names were used in contrast to each other as the name of a murderous virus and its antidote. Perhaps these names are used more often in other parts of the world that I am unaware of, as names given to a righteous ally and his villainous antagonist.

I had a sudden urge to read Greek mythology, and I remembered that I must have a book called “Greek Mythology” somewhere, which I had bought many years ago but left it unread, so I went looking for it yesterday. I found about 20 thick books that I had probably used as textbooks and reference materials in my college days. I found them and stood dumbfounded, having put “Greek Mythology” out of my mind.
These books, which I had now forgotten I even had, were lying in old cardboard boxes. Each of them must have been opened at least once, but I couldn’t remember what they were about. What was shocking to me was that there were all these titles that I would like to read now.

When I was in college, I majored in “psychology” and, to a certain extent, graduated. However, during my actual college years, I was so absorbed in my part-time job that I have almost no memories of spending time on my studies. There were many such unserious college students back then, and I was not the only inferior student in particular.
In my cardboard boxes were books on “Abnormal Psychology,” “Introduction to Child Psychology,” “Personality,” “Medical Psychology,” “Counseling,” and so on, all of which seemed to be difficult in content. If I wanted to study and research these again while working, it would take several years even if I tried very hard. Maybe 10 years. It is a daunting prospect, but there is a part of me that would like to read them. I should take it as a “lifelong learning” and be patient. Come to think of it, I just bought a book titled “Introduction to Jungian Psychology” the other day.

When I was a high school student, I was particular about “psychology” when I chose a university. First of all, there was psychology, and I was aiming for a so-called famous university in that field. Somewhere along the way, my passion for psychology disappeared, and I just drifted along with the waves of the world in order to survive. However, here I have had the opportunity to come face to face with psychology again. I hope to learn as much as I can, because knowledge of psychology and counseling will surely be useful in my volunteer work, which I am now trying to do.
Yesterday was also the moment when what I set out to do in high school connected with what I am doing now. The desire to learn about the human heart did not suddenly resurface yesterday; it may have been pulsing secretly deep within me for more than 35 years. As for me, I don’t know how far I can go, but come on, I have a new goal again.

And “Greek Mythology,” as I found it: ……
