[Winter Rain]

Winter Rain

As a child, I worked hard at baseball and hated rain. If it rained, I would not be able to play or practice baseball. If the cause of my inability to do so was the weather, I could not take my frustration of being deprived of something I loved so much out anywhere. I had to be patient. Especially when there was a game, I just prayed that it would not rain. Since then, I have never liked rain.

The other day it rained, which I hate so much, and I found myself very happy. There was no particular event scheduled for that day; it was just a normal, ordinary day. But it was also an ordinary day when I was busy shoveling snow with the intention of getting snow every day and was in the mindset of “no more snow. It was a normal winter day in a snowy country. The temperature must have risen for some reason, and I was unexpectedly grateful for the heavy rain that melted the snow.
I think it is quite selfish that one’s impression of the same rain falling from the sky can change depending on the time and occasion. Human beings live their lives as they please even in such situations. It must be hard for the rain to be hated and worshipped.

Unlike people in warmer regions, those who grew up in snowy regions know how to withstand the absolute power of heavy snowfall. Overwhelmed by the irresistible, ineffable marvels of nature, we do what we can to survive. Every day is a repetition of small acts of resistance.
I can’t say much about my area because it doesn’t get that much snow, but I think people in what are called “heavy snowfall areas” are really tenacious. They may be in a life-threatening situation if they do not act before complaining. I am not joking, but that is how harsh life is in deep snow areas during the winter.

I think that is why they are so happy to see the coming of spring. After putting up with it, enduring it, and steadily shoveling the hard snow every day, the long winter finally comes to an end. The reward for all the hard work will be a glorious spring. The magnitude of that joy can probably only be understood by those who have experienced it. I may be offended if I put it this way, but I think those who know such irreplaceable joy are happy. The first rain in a long time may be mixed with a few tears of joy. But if it were me, however, I would not be able to bear such a situation every year.
There are people who are showering us with grievances and running away from what they need to do. It is important to keep giving orders to overturn a system that we believe is not good. However, just criticizing will not change anything. I am sure that there will be a reward that will come down to us if we keep on doing something little by little, day by day. There are no guarantees, but I would like to believe in that blessing and lead a life that accumulates important things one by one.

 I hate shoveling snow.
