勉強ができて、コミュニケーション能力もあって、スポーツもできてという、この世界にはそういういわゆる“優れた”人たちばかりがいるわけではない。当たり前のことだ。人が羨むような能力の習得を目指して努力することを悪いとは思わない。しかしそこだけが目指すべき場所ではないことも知っておくべきだろう。優れていることを批判するわけではないけれど、自分が優れていたとしても、そのことを理由に優れていない人たちを虐げるような行いをしてはいけない。しかし現実は、私に言わせれば、「自分の方が上だ」と、思い違いをしている“優れた”人たちは多い。

　学歴社会が示しているように、日本の社会には基本的にそういった差別が蔓延していると思う。能力のない人たち、或いは能力があることに重きを置かない人たちは軽んじられる。実力主義と言い換えても良い。人の上に立つ“優れた”人たちには、一人の人間がそこに生きているだけで、かけがえのない価値があることを分からない人が多いように感じる。人と同じように出来なかったり、自分の弱さに負けてしまったりした“できない人”は排除される。
　利益の追求だけを目指す社会にあって、それは当たり前の現象なのかもしれない。足手まといになる人間を切り捨てて行かなければ、目標は達成できないのであろう。そうやって勝ち組と負け組に人間が区分され、分断が起きて行く。裕福になって行く人はより富を築き上げ、そうでない人は30年も40年も状況は変わらず、或いは悪化して行く。

　それでもこの日本という国のこの時代に生まれ落ちたことは、幸せなのだろう。今のところ戦火に巻き込まれることはなく、普通に生活ができていれば、そこまでの貧困に喘ぐこともほとんどない。病気をしてもちゃんと医者に診てもらえる。しかし世界に目を移せば、私たちと同じ人間の上に、目を覆うような悲惨な出来事が起こっている現実がある。
　戦争のことだけを言っているのではない。日本での日常生活においても、それは事件や事故の他にも様々な細かい問題はたくさんあるけれど、例えば銃の乱射などによる大量殺人などは起こらない。滅多にない殺人事件が一つ起これば、大ニュースになる。恐らく犯罪比率で言えば、日本は世界中で最も安心して暮らせる国の一つだと思う。この部分では本当に神さまに感謝して、この恵みを日本人一人一人がもっと自覚するべきだと思う。

　これを踏まえた上で、だがしかし、いや、だからこそ、優れていない者にも、誰もが目を注ぐ社会であって欲しいと願う。弱い者に手を差し伸べる人たちが称賛される世の中であって欲しい。本当にそこなのだ。自分のことを差し置いて、他人を優先できるような人々がもっといたら、単純にもっと素晴らしい世界になるのではないかと思う。違うだろうか。
　そんな悠長なことばかり言っているから、いつまで経っても利益が上げられず、豊かになれないのだと怒られてしまうだろうか。確かにそうなのかもしれない。私の考え方は社会的には“甘い”のだろう。でも私は甘くて結構だ。馬鹿にされようが何をされようが、私は私が信じる気持ちのいい道を行く。その道が主の道であると信じて。

Excellent People

　There are not only so-called “excellent” people in this world who can study, have good communication skills, and play sports. That’s only natural. I don’t think it’s wrong to work hard to acquire abilities that other people would envy. But you should also know that that’s not the only place you should be aiming. I’m not criticizing people for being good at something, but even if you are good at something, you shouldn’t use that as a reason to bully people who aren’t good at it. But in reality, if you ask me, there are a lot of “good” people who are mistakenly thinking that they are better than others.

　As the education-oriented society shows, I think that such discrimination is basically widespread in Japanese society. People who are not talented, or who do not place importance on being talented, are looked down upon. You could also call it a meritocracy. I feel that many of the “superior” people who are in positions of authority do not understand that just by being alive, a single person has an irreplaceable value. People who are unable to do the same things as others, or who are defeated by their own weaknesses, are excluded.
　In a society that is only concerned with the pursuit of profit, this may be a natural phenomenon. If you don’t cut off the people who are a burden, you won’t be able to achieve your goals. In this way, people are divided into winners and losers, and division occurs. Those who become wealthy build up their wealth even more, while those who don’t see their situation remain the same or even worsen for 30 or 40 years.

　Even so, I suppose it is a blessing to have been born in this country at this time. As long as you are not caught up in the fighting and can live a normal life, you will not suffer from poverty to any great extent. Even if you do fall ill, you can see a doctor. However, if you look at the world, there is a reality where tragic events that make you want to cover your eyes are happening to people just like us.
　I am not just talking about war. Even in our everyday lives in Japan, there are many other minor problems besides incidents and accidents, but for example, mass murders such as those caused by gun rampages do not occur. If one murder case that is rare does occur, it becomes big news. Perhaps in terms of the crime ratio, Japan is one of the countries in the world where you can live with the greatest peace of mind. I think that we should really be thankful to God for this, and that each and every Japanese person should be more aware of this blessing.

　With this in mind, but no, that’s why, I hope that it is a society where everyone pays attention to those who are not so good. I hope that it is a world where people who reach out to the weak are praised. That is really what I mean. I think that if there were more people who could put others before themselves, it would simply make the world a better place. Don’t you think?
　Will people get angry at me for saying such long-winded things and not making a profit or becoming rich? That may be true. My way of thinking is probably “naive” in society. But I’m fine with being naive. I’ll go down the path that I believe in, no matter what people think of me or what they do to me. I believe that that path is the Lord’s path.
