私は政治のことに興味がなく、総理大臣はどうせ誰がやったって変わらないのだろうと諦めている。興味がないというより、絶望していると言った方が正しい。しかし現状に満足しているわけではなく、選挙の時は政府に異を唱える意味で、常に野党に投票してきた。些細な抵抗でしかなかった。
　先日終わったばかりの参議院選挙が盛り上がったせいか、最近何気なくYouTubeを見ていると、政治家が発信している動画が非常に多く目に入ってくる。興味がないのでほったらかしにしていたが、何かのきっかけでたまたま一本見ることになった。

　その動画では6年ほど前に結党された比較的新しい政党の党首が、参議院選挙を終えて、記者からの質問に答えている場面が映し出されていた。よく見る首相の記者会見のように短い質問に短く答えるような感じではなく、その動画ではその党首が一つの質問に対してグラフなどのデータを紹介しながら、長々とじっくり回答していたのが印象的だった。私はそれを聴いていて、本当に勉強になった。政治のことがいつもうさん臭いと感じていて、ニュースを見ていても流し見していることが多いのだが、この人の言っていることは真実味が充分に感じられ、信じたくなった。
　その初めて見た動画は財政や税金の話が主だったが、その後他の動画を見てみるとそれ以外の様々な問題、移民問題や外交政策、農政、福島の復興問題等々にも精通していて、本当に驚いた。彼の言うことがいちいち腑に落ちて、感心してしまったほどだ。説明の仕方が上手いのだろうか。とにかく政治嫌いの私を画面の前にとどまらせるだけでも大したものだと思う。見ていて単純に面白いと思ったし、原稿を見ずに自分の言葉で話しているのがいい。本当に真剣な眼差しの奥に、揺るぎない信念が窺える。こういう人が本物と言えるのかもしれないと思った。

　聞くところによると、この人は中学校しか卒業していないそうだ。私は学歴社会の影響を受けすぎているせいか、にわかには信じられなかった。どれだけ勉強したのだろう。独学だろうか？誰かに専門的に教わったのだろうか。少なくともああいった演説・説明ができる、センスなのか、才能なのか分からないが、素質があったことは間違いないところだろう。単に猛勉強しただけであのようになれるとは考えらず、何か目に見えないパワーを感じる。本当に素晴らしいパフォーマンスだと思う。本物なのかもしれない。何と言っても画面から伝わってくるその情熱が凄まじい。

　私がこの人のようにはなれるとは、とてもとても思えない。憧れはあるが、残念ながらそれは難しいだろう。しかしこの人になる必要はないのだと思う。進む道は違えども、この人の生き様を目指すことは良いことだろう。彼はまだ若く、エネルギーもあって、目標にするにはとても良いターゲットだと思う。
　彼の本気度を真似ようとすることは悪い事ではない。結果にこだわらず、良い意味で刺激を受け、彼の中の良い要素を私の生き方にたくさん取り入れていきたいと思う。キリスト教の関係者以外で、久しぶりに骨のある人物に出会えたように感じている。

　総理大臣、なってくれないかな～

Rival

　I have no interest in politics and have given up on the idea that it doesn’t matter who becomes prime minister. It’s not so much that I’m uninterested as I am despairing. However, I am not satisfied with the current state of affairs, and during elections, I have always voted for the opposition party as a way of voicing my dissent toward the government. It was nothing more than a small act of resistance.
　Perhaps because the recent Upper House election was so exciting, I’ve been casually watching YouTube lately and have noticed a lot of videos posted by politicians. I ignored them because I wasn’t interested, but something caught my eye and I ended up watching one.

　The video showed the leader of a relatively new political party, founded about six years ago, answering questions from reporters after the Upper House election. Unlike the prime minister’s press conferences I usually see, where short questions are answered briefly, in this video, the party leader took his time to answer each question in detail, using graphs and other data. I found it truly enlightening. I’ve always felt that politics is shady, and even when I watch the news, I tend to just skim through it. However, what this person was saying felt genuine, and I found myself wanting to believe him.
　The first video I saw was mainly about finance and taxes, but when I watched other videos, I was surprised to find that he was well-informed about various other issues, such as immigration, foreign policy, agricultural policy, and the reconstruction of Fukushima. Everything he said made sense, and I was impressed. Perhaps he is a skilled communicator. In any case, I think it is remarkable that he was able to keep someone like me, who dislikes politics, glued to the screen. I found it simply interesting to watch, and I liked that he spoke in his own words without reading from a script. Behind his serious gaze, I could see his unwavering conviction. I thought that this is what you could call a genuine person.

　According to what I heard, he only graduated from junior high school. Perhaps I am too influenced by our education-oriented society, but I couldn’t believe it at first. How much did he study? Did he teach himself? Did someone teach him professionally? I don’t know if it’s his sense or talent, but he definitely has the potential to give such speeches and explanations. I don’t think he could have achieved that just by studying hard. I feel like there’s some kind of invisible power at work. I think it’s a truly amazing performance. He might be the real deal. Above all, the passion that comes through the screen is incredible.

　I don’t think I could ever be like him. I admire him, but unfortunately, it’s probably impossible. However, I don’t think I need to be like him. Even if our paths are different, aiming for their way of life is a good thing. They are still young, full of energy, and a great target to aspire to.
　Trying to emulate their dedication isn’t a bad thing. Without fixating on results, I want to be inspired in a positive way and incorporate many of their good qualities into my own life. It feels like I’ve finally met someone with real substance outside of the Christian community.

　I wish they would become Prime Minister…
