[Melancholy of Oblivion]

Melancholy of Oblivion

I think this is a common tendency among artist-type people, and they sometimes have trouble remembering the content of conversations they have had with someone. I am a person who remembers quite well, and I sometimes even make someone feel uncomfortable because I remember too much. I remember the content of the conversation, along with the timing of the conversation, or the mood of the person, or something like that. When I try to talk about something I’ve said before, I somehow have a flashback and realize, “Hey, we’ve talked about this before. It is possible that we have told the same story without my noticing, but perhaps in such cases, the person I am talking to is only someone with whom I have not known for a long time.

I don’t like to talk about myself, so I don’t usually do so. I may tell a good friend, but I don’t think it would happen that way unless I was very drunk or forced to “insist” on it. So the few memories I have of talking about myself tend to stay with me and, well, I think I can usually remember them.
For me, I feel a little depressed and angry when someone forgets what I have said to them after putting up with a lot of unpleasant feelings. I would get desperate and think, “Oh, he’s not listening to me. This tendency seems to be more common among left-brained people, or people with a sensuous nature like an artist. Such people talk so much about themselves that it is almost mind-boggling, but they don’t seem to listen to what the other person has to say.
It would be easy to give up and change the way we interact with them, but I still cannot get rid of my disappointment. However, even if I clearly said, “We’ve talked about this before,” I feel that it would only create a strange atmosphere, and it’s not something I would want to make such a big deal out of in the first place. It seems that the best solution is for me to be patient. Or am I being too concerned about “small things”?

I don’t want anyone to think to me, “Oh, he doesn’t remember me. So I want to remember every conversation we have. That way, there will be less chance for someone else to feel the same sadness that I did. I want to be a “good person” to everyone I interact with. Am I being too greedy to think so? Perhaps it is this kind of dreaming of the impossible that makes me a hypocrite. It is not good to involve others in my fantasy.
However, I do not think it is wrong to try to remember the content of conversations. Unfortunately, I seem to lack left-brain skills, so I will have to use my right brain to the fullest and master that side of my brain.

I may be longing somewhere for a kind of “boldness” that would allow me to easily forget what I have said. Maybe I envy them the “guts” to act, speak, and behave as they please, without worrying about “small things. If I had a little more of that “naivete,” which is the exact opposite of my personality, it would be a little easier for me.

I can’t remember names these days.
