[Delicate Situation]

Delicate Situation

When you watch a foreign film, you may hear “Help ! Help ! in Western movies, we often see people yelling for help. This is often the case in situations where a person’s life is in danger due to an accident or incident. They shout loudly and beg for help, whether they know the person or not, “Please help me!.
When I watch such scenes, I wonder if I would be able to yell out for help like the actors in the movie if I were in such a situation in real life. I am sure that I would be able to do so if my danger perception meter is turned off, but it seems so unrealistic that I think it would only happen in a movie. I am very happy that such a thing has never happened to me in my peaceful life.

If it were a life-or-death matter, there would be no time to hesitate, but what about when you are in a difficult but delicate situation where you might be able to get through it if you work hard alone? In fact, I think that is the case more often than not.
Such was the case the other day when it snowed heavily and I was on my way home from work alone when my car got stuck in the snow. At first, I thought, “If it’s just this much snow, I can get out by shoveling it out a little. However, even after removing the snow around the tires with a shovel, the car still could not get out, and I grew more and more impatient. The more impatiently I tried to dig up the snow, the more sweat began to pour out of me, and although it only took 30 to 40 minutes, I became exhausted to the point of feeling tired. Even though it was work I was not accustomed to doing, I still felt miserable. I began to breathe on my shoulders and thought, “I’m in pain!” I thought about asking someone in the neighborhood for help, but I was too embarrassed and ashamed to ask. In the end, I managed on my own, but that day I was so exhausted that I just collapsed and fell asleep.

It was hard for me to say, “Help!” even if it was a small problem that could have been solved by saying, “Help me,” even in a whisper. I sometimes look at myself coldly, as if I were someone else, and say, “Why didn’t you just say it? If I could say it, my life would be simpler; in other words, I may be making my own life difficult to live. I feel as if my pride is hurt by being helped in some way, or perhaps I am simply shy, or perhaps I am too shy.

In the end, I think I am not able to open up to others. There is a thick wall between others and myself. I think it is probably due to my lack of self-confidence, and anyway, I grew up to be such a person. I wanted to be a more open-minded, dependable, and generous adult. When I imagine myself from other people’s point of view, I am always frightened, with no room to spare.
But there is no point in lamenting that now, so I want to be properly aware of the fact that I am such a person and think about what I can do and what I want to do from now on. I would like to consider whether I should try to correct what I think is wrong with me, or whether I should try to develop my good qualities, or whether I should try both. But at the very least, I want to develop the courage to rely on others, even if only a little more.

Take extra care on snowy roads!
