時に、ご褒美は必要かなと思う。目の前にぶら下げられたニンジンを追うような真似は、あまり褒められた行為ではないかもしれないが、私の場合いつも高いモチベーションを維持することはやはり難しいので、たまに違う角度から刺激をもらえると助かる。気分転換ではないが、ご褒美のようなものが緊張を解いてくれる役割をし、また次へのやる気を喚起してくれる場合もある。日々頑張れている自覚があるのなら、自分自身をたまには褒めてあげることも私はありだと思う。

　ということで、私は私にご褒美をあげることにした。何がいいかなと考えると、なかなか出て来ないものだ。さんざん考えた挙句、友達の進言もあって、U-NEXTという動画配信サービスに加入することにした。私は現在ほとんどの映画やドラマをAmazonプライムで観ているが、しばらく前から作品のラインナップに物足りなさを感じるようになっていた。そこへもってきてU-NEXTのサイトを覗いてみると、観たい作品が目白押しになっている。ちょっと契約料が高いので二の足を踏んでいたが、今回思い切って加入してみたいと思う。

　入ったら入ったで、やっぱりNetflixやDisney＋等の他のサービスの方がよく見えたりするのかもしれない。スポーツをよく観る私にとっては、U-NEXTはスポーツ関連が弱いので、それは間違いなくマイナスポイントだ。しかしそこを差し引いても、私が大好きな「ゲーム・オブ・スローンズ」のスピンオフドラマである「ハウス・オブ・ザ・ドラゴン」をはじめ、アメリカのHBOが制作しているドラマが観られるU-NEXTは、私にとっては頭一つ抜き出て魅力的なのだ。

　質の高い映画やドラマは、新しい気づきや知恵を授けてくれる。それらはブログを書くために非常に助けになる。そういう意味でも、確かに料金は高いが、U-NEXTに入ることは意義を見出せる。私の心を動かしてくれることに加え、ブログのネタまで提供してくれるのなら、案外安いと言えるのかもしれない。最近あまり読めていない本から、また距離が遠ざかってしまいそうだ。
　思い立ったが吉日で、すぐにでも契約しよう。そのことでもしかしたらブログを書くことがもう一つ楽しくなるかもしれない。久しぶりにウキウキする気持ちだ。やっぱりたまのご褒美は必要だと思う。そうか、そう言えば明日はクリスマスか。

Christmas Present

　Sometimes, I think a reward is necessary. It may not be a complimentary act to chase a carrot dangled in front of you, but in my case, it is still difficult to maintain a high level of motivation all the time, so it is helpful to be stimulated from a different angle once in a while. It is not a change of pace, but a kind of reward can serve to relieve tension and motivate me to do better the next time. If you are aware that you are working hard every day, I think it is possible to give yourself a pat on the back once in a while.

　So I decided to reward me. When I thought about what would be good for me, it was hard to come up with anything. After much thought, and on the advice of a friend, I decided to subscribe to a video streaming service called U-NEXT. I currently watch most of my movies and dramas on Amazon Prime, but for some time now, I have felt that the lineup of movies was lacking. Then I looked at U-NEXT’s website and found that there were a lot of movies I wanted to watch. I had been hesitant to join because of the high subscription fee, but I decided to take the plunge this time.

　If I join, other services such as Netflix and Disney+ may look better. As a frequent sports watcher, U-NEXT is weak on sports, which is definitely a downside for me. However, even with that disadvantage, U-NEXT’s access to dramas produced by HBO in the U.S., including “House of the Dragon,” a spin-off drama of “Game of Thrones,” which I love, is head and shoulders above the rest for me.

　Quality movies and dramas give me new insights and wisdom. They are very helpful for blogging. In this sense, I find it worthwhile to join U-NEXT despite the high price. In addition to inspiring me, it provides me with material for my blog, so I guess you could say it’s cheaper than you might think. It would be another step away from the books I haven’t read much of lately.
　The moment I think of it, I’ll sign up right away. Maybe that will make blogging one more fun thing to do. I feel excited for the first time in a long time. After all, an occasional reward is necessary, I think. Oh, that reminds me, tomorrow is Christmas.
