[Suffering Facing]

Suffering Facing

There is a profile of yourself that you do not want others to know, and there is an ugliness deep within that you do not want to face, and it is extremely painful to delve into a part of yourself that you would like to keep away forever if you could. The deeper you dig, the more painful and difficult it becomes. I really want to avoid it if at all possible. But if I don’t challenge myself to do so, I feel that I can no longer find the meaning of life.

There is nothing easy about trying to see the parts we don’t want to see. There is nothing fun about it. In my case, being reminded of my own stupidity is nothing but pain. And to recognize and accept my own ugliness is the most painful and demanding thing of all. Every time I dig deeper, I end up there, and I have to taste this pain all over again. I can’t blame me if I want to run away from the pain.
It is a puzzling phenomenon that I, who love what is easy and enjoyable, am trying to challenge myself in the opposite direction. I’ve lived my life chasing what’s easy and fun, and I can’t say that I have exhausted it, but I have come to feel that there is not something beyond this that I am truly seeking. And I have a feeling that this hunch will be right with a pretty high probability.

I don’t need to do such a painful thing to live. I think I will be able to live out my life in a reasonable and safe manner without having to go out of my way to make myself suffer. Even so, it probably won’t be a bad life. To be honest, I feel that would be fine.
In fact, it is too painful to face myself, and I often try to fool myself into thinking that I am safe. But something tells me that that’s not good enough. I don’t know why. I don’t know, but ever since I was young, when I was pursuing an easy and enjoyable life, I have always had this issue of “I have to face myself” somewhere in the back of my mind.

I have often been told to “relax my shoulders. To those around me, I look like I have a lot of wrinkles between my eyebrows and my eyes are upturned. Perhaps it is true, and I do not look like I am enjoying my life. Perhaps my quest for an “easy and enjoyable life” has long since collapsed.
Words like “serious” and “forceful” are not often used in the best sense of the word. They are words often used to describe me by those around me. I think they are thrown at me with no small amount of caution. But I am too stubborn to listen to their advice. “What’s wrong with being serious? It is only natural that if you are serious, you will put more effort into it. I even feel like rebelling. But I am getting older and I am worried about my high blood pressure, so I try not to get too excited. While I don’t want to die just yet, I do think it would be typical of me if I were to overthink things and end up losing my breath on the spot because of the blood rushing to my head.
The chance to delve into myself is always given to me by others. So I don’t want to cut myself off from others, even if it is painful. I don’t want to stop here, I still want to grow.

 It’s hard, isn’t it?
