[How to Be Happy]

How to Be Happy

I don’t think happiness is something that can be attained by excelling in one thing. Perhaps it is not. For example, becoming rich by succeeding in business, winning a gold medal, and so on are not equal to happiness. I’ve never been rich or competed in the Olympics, so I’m not very convincing when I say that, but perhaps not.

So if you ask me if it is better to try multiple things at once, I think that is also wrong. I am not here to talk about such technical methodologies. If I were to speak technically, I am a very clumsy person, and everything I do tends to take a long time. It is difficult for me to be efficient in my work. In other words, it is impossible for me to do several tasks at the same time. However, if you ask me if I can’t be happy because I am such a disappointment, I don’t think so. I think everyone has a chance to be happy, regardless of the number of things they can do at the same time.

I would like to sort this out a little. It is not a matter of trying to do too many things at the same time. I think it is precious and irreplaceable to concentrate on one thing and work hard at it. And if there is something that you can devote yourself to, you should devote yourself to it. If you have found a goal that you can devote your whole heart and soul to, I think you are very lucky.
However, I don’t want to forget that my goals are not everything in life. I don’t think it can be as simple as being happy if you achieve your goals and unhappy if you fail to achieve them. There is no need to cling to the glory you have attained and remain caught in the ecstasy of it forever, or to sink into the depths of despair after a failure. Life goes on after that.

We, or rather I, do not know what happiness is. I have not experienced what it looks like or feels like to be happy. That’s what I think. In a sense, you could say that I am starving for happiness. But is that really true? Do I really not know happiness?
I think that being placed in such a situation, such as an environment and a state of mind that makes me want to work hard toward a goal, is already happiness in itself. I think that being able to continue to take action to search for happiness is happiness in itself. I guess what I don’t really understand is the happiness of life as it exists today. At this point, all of this is just a hunch in my head.
I can only continue to live one day at a time with the utmost sincerity. I think that is good enough for now. If I have found a goal for now, I should just go straight ahead to achieve it. By continuing to do so, there may come a day when I can realize my daily happiness. You can do your best to believe in that day. Even if I can’t feel it now, when I look back after working hard like that, “happiness” may be something that I can easily find around the corner.

When I get absorbed in something, I forget about everything else.
