[The Last Ship]

The Last Ship

I watched the foreign drama “The Last Ship (Season 4). The story is about the crew of a destroyer in the U.S. Navy who risk their lives to find a way for humanity to survive amidst a worldwide food shortage. In order to cure a contagious disease that has spread to grain, a genius scientist has developed a cure that contains an effect that suppresses human “anger.
The scientist, who had a tragic experience when his son was assaulted and killed by a passerby, determined that human “anger” is the root of all evil. In order to permanently deprive the human race of aggression, he attempts to create a cure with such effects and spread it throughout the famine-stricken world.

The idea that “anger is the root of all evil” stuck with me. In the storyline of this drama, the good and evil end with the just logic that “anger” is a part of human nature and no one is allowed to suppress it. I think this is the type of ending that many people, including myself, probably expected.
We can simply say that this genius scientist “tried to be God. It was also the groan of a father in despair over the death of his son. Personally, I feel very sorry for him, but I still think that is the wrong way to think. I can’t help but wonder if the scientist had a chance to follow the path of faith that I believe in, instead of going in that direction. I don’t know what made him change direction, whether it was the words of those around him, their willingness to stand by him, or forceful persuasion, but no one could stop him from falling alone into the depths of disappointment. They left him alone in his loneliness. I think that was the result.
(I am examining the lives of the characters in the drama as if they were real people, is this strange? I’m a little lost. …….)

Perhaps the only way to climb up from the depths of despair is to turn to God. If we cannot meet God in the true sense of the word “at the place”, we may lose our way like this scientist. However, if we can only improve ourselves between people, “relying on others” and “being supported by others” may be one of the ways to receive the strength to crawl up.
It goes without saying that it is important for me to be alone and pray to God. Rather, all I can think of is “all I can do is pray. But at the same time, however, I don’t think we should cut off our connection with others. I am not sure about it, but I think that something like “kizuna” (bond) is precious, though I cannot compare it to anything else. I feel that there is a hint for living hidden in it as well.

The idea of “suppressing ‘aggression’ and creating peace” is a very helpful idea in trying to create peace, not just suppressing it with drugs. The line in the drama, “I’m tired of being angry,” is very memorable.
It is undeniable that one of the causes of wars and various other conflicts on earth is anger. As the conversation about diplomacy and the balance of power grows, it is easy to lose sight of the basic patterns of the hearts and minds of individual people. It is a farce to say, “I am a Christian,” while setting missiles in the sights of an enemy nation and threatening them.

Foreign drama scripts are really great!
