[Meddlesome me.]

Meddlesome me.

It is a bad habit of mine to want to do something about it. When I see someone I know is in trouble or having a hard time, I want to help them, even though I don’t have a particular solution for them. I am so eager to help that I sometimes act only on my own assumptions, without taking into consideration the person’s position and thoughts. In such cases, I often end up wasting the time and causing trouble. Each time this happens, I even feel depressed and wonder what I am doing. I think I have to be careful about imposing kindness. ……

There is a part of me that thinks I can “save the world”. I have less knowledge, ideas, and connections than those who are considered wise, but when someone asks me for advice, I feel as if I can do something about it. Although this tendency seems to have calmed down recently, it is still there. I don’t know the extent of what I can do, no matter how long it takes. Rather, I may be obsessed with the delusion that there is nothing I cannot do.

It is very discouraging when you try to do something for them and in the end it doesn’t work out. Of course, it may be that “I couldn’t do anything for the person in question,” but I think it is more likely that my “lack of ability” is the cause of the disappointment. Perhaps I am trying to imitate the wise men and women who appear in novels and TV dramas, who make full use of their knowledge and ideas to help others.
Unfortunately, however, my knowledge is limited and narrow, and I am not able to come up with witty ideas one after another. I guess this frustrates me from the bottom of my heart. I feel ashamed that I am unable to help in any way. I think I have been so caught up in my own inability that I have not been able to realize that I do not know “I do not know things.

Jesus fed 5,000 people out of nothing, healed the sick, and and rose from the dead. Maybe somewhere along the way I have come to believe that I can do such things too. I think it is one way of life to throw away all worldly values and live believing in miracles. I do not deny that at all. I even envy those who can live that way.
However, I am going to live in this real world of reality. At least for a while. And I think it is wrong to bring my ideals into solving other people’s problems. I would like to calmly assess the range of what I can do in the real world, and in consideration of the situation of the person who came to me for advice and my ability, I would like to give the best advice and act in a way that will be supportive to that person. In such cases, attempts beyond my ability will only be a nuisance. I think it is true kindness to clearly say, “I can’t do it,” when you think you can’t do it.

It’s not quite as cool as I thought it would be!
