[Mirror Law]

Mirror Law

Perhaps there are hints for living in my own way in reexamining and reapplying myself to things and people I have avoided for a long time. I think I will find something in the process of trying to overcome problems through trial and error. Somehow I smell the secret to solving the mystery from that area.
I have written many times on this blog that the difference between disliking and liking may be a fine line. In other words, we may feel dislike for an object because it shows us the parts of ourselves that we don’t like through the event or person we dislike. At this point I think this idea is very much on point. When something happens and I consider the moment I dislike something as an opportunity to get closer to myself.

Last night I was watching an American drama. I have always liked this drama series and look forward to watching it every time. However, in the episode I watched last night, the overall story was great, but there was one scene that was a bit long and disturbed me. It was a so-called bed scene between two men.
The main theme of this episode was “HIV,” and I think this gay bed scene was necessary for the production. I have already watched more than 50 episodes of this drama, but this is the first time I have seen such an intense scene between homosexuals, and I think this shows the special nature of this episode. Even though I knew this to be the case, I was overcome with the desire to skip this scene. I didn’t feel comfortable watching it.

I believe that there is some kind of discrimination in my mind against women, younger people, etc., even if I am not usually aware of it. I do not deny that. So maybe there is a feeling of looking down on homosexuals as well. However, for my part, I am not particularly interested in discriminating against homosexuals, or rather, there are no such people around me, and to be clear, I am not really interested in them. I don’t understand why people would want to be romantically involved with homosexuals, but I don’t think I need to have any opinion on the matter. In any case, I don’t think their right to live freely should be allowed to be threatened.
However, if I were to be shown such explicit and graphic scenes, or if I were actually approached by a man, I would reject it. I don’t like it. I think that not infringing on the rights of homosexuals and refusing to accept the direct harm they actually suffer are two completely different things. If gay people were to directly force me to do something, that would be a violation of my rights.

What bothered me was that upon seeing this scene I instantly thought “I hate it”. It’s the aforementioned “what you think you don’t like is inside you” law. In other words, my dislike of a homosexual bed scene automatically raises the suspicion that I may have a homosexual disposition. I don’t think so, but in the meantime, I did a little bit of soul-searching.
I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I suspect that some of the things I dislike are just pure dislike. I can’t for the life of me believe that I have a gay streak in me. I’m starting to feel even worse when I think about it. Again, I would like to separate the recognition of rights from physiological likes and dislikes. I think I need to confront the homosexuality in me a little more, but, hmmm, I honestly think I can stop here.

I feel like homosexuality is a distant, otherworldly subject.
