個性を出すこと、自分の特徴を表現することを抑えられる状況があると思う。チームプレーが重要視され、どの役割を誰が担っても同じような成果を得られるように訓練される。歯車の一つの役割を忠実にこなすことのみが要求され、どんなに能力があろうとも、目立つような動きは規制される。ロボットになれと言われているわけでは決してない。しかしそういう場面に出くわすと、私は非常に生きづらさを感じる。

　チームワークの素晴らしさも知っている。長年野球をやってきた経験からも、仕事においてスタッフと助け合いながら映像作品を作ってきたことからも、「無くてはならないもの」だと思う。けれどもそれぞれが個性を生かしてこそ、本当のチームワークの素晴らしさに触れることができるのではないか。現実の社会の中で、個性を抑えなければいけない場面が多すぎるように思う。

　日本に特有の現象だろうか？

One Loneliness

　I think there are situations where people are restrained from expressing their individuality and their own characteristics. Team play is emphasized and everyone is trained to achieve the same results no matter who is in any given role. Only one role in the gear is required to be faithfully fulfilled, and no matter how capable one is, any conspicuous movement is restricted. We are not being asked to become robots. However, when I encounter such situations, I find it very difficult to live.

　I know the beauty of teamwork. I think it is “indispensable”, both from my years of experience playing baseball and from the fact that I have made films while helping the staff at work. However, I believe that it is only when each individual makes the most of his or her individuality that we can experience the true beauty of teamwork. In the real world, there are too many situations in which individuality must be suppressed.

　Is this a phenomenon unique to Japan?
