[What to Fear]

What to Fear

I still think I am afraid of being hurt. I am afraid of being hurt by others. I think I’m starting to feel it more and more these days. I don’t care what anyone says! I’m going my own way! I often say this in a cool way, but in reality, I am often severely depressed by what other people say to me.
Simply put, I think I am a “weak basher. I am always disheartened by critical words or actions in response to something I have done. If the criticism is within the range of what I can expect, I have a way to respond, but if it is blunt, especially if it touches on something that touches my essence, I am unable to say anything back. After such a criticism, I am always in a terribly depressed mood.

That is why I may do what I usually do, most of the time, with the primary consideration of avoiding criticism from those around me. Well, I guess that’s what you call being a “good person” or a “good worker”, but then my motives would be impure, or it would only be a matter of time before I would get tired or bored of doing so. If you don’t do it because you really want to do it, it will just be a way to make money or pass the time.

I have a great reason for doing my job well. No one would argue that I do my job well, whether it is to make money or not. In fact, however, a negative motivation dominates my mind: “I don’t want to be criticized. Of course, there is also the desire to be “appreciated,” to be “considered a good person,” etc., etc., etc. But the real me, the stupid and timid one, is most afraid of making a mistake and getting angry.
If someone were to poke me in this area and say, for example, “You’re afraid of getting angry, so you’re just pretending to do it, right? I would be at a loss for words. This is the part that I don’t want to be touched the most. As for work, I would like to focus on something that I can devote myself to without any pretense so that I can stop being afraid of such things, but it is a big problem whether I can find such a job or not, and I doubt if such a job even exists in the first place.

Basically, I think I lack self-confidence. I always feel insecure and timid. I would like to be more confident and say, “Come at me from anywhere! I wonder if this is due to the influence of my overbearing father, whom I was exposed to from an early age. There is no way to know for sure, but I think it is my destiny to have grown up into this kind of adult. It is a little depressing to think that I will continue to live in fear of others, but I have no choice but to live with this cowardice.
However, I see it as a really big gain to be able to realize that I am a person who is afraid of criticism from others. The answer to the question, “What am I afraid of? I may find a different fear after a while, but, well, I will think about it then. Anyway, I feel that my understanding of who I am has deepened once again, and I have a firm foothold from which to start thinking about things.

It’s a little different from “I’m worried about what other people think of me.
